Impressions of Scilly

Yes I know it's been a while....well a long while, so thanks for being patient with me! Mid - June saw my annual trip to The Scilly Isles, always a treat, and it didn't matter that the wind blew and the rain came down, I just put on my hiking boots and waterproof trousers and took a brolly and got out into the (very) fresh air! The sun did shine too, and so I was able to take some photos to share with you.........

The harbour on St. Mary's

Boards advertising boat trips to all the 'off' islands

' The Island Rover ' takes you on a rather fun tour of St. Mary's

Sub-tropical plants grow wild here

Hard knuckles of flecked ancient granite, sun-baked and with a lichen crust......

Pure granite sand; grainy granules at the water's edge, graduating to white powdery softness where the marram grass erupts from the dunes.......

the sea is so clean and clear

putting out the lobster pots

Johnathon's organic fruit and veg stall. I sampled some mixed lettuce leaves - delicious!

everywhere strange succulents grow out of the walls

The pace of life on St. Martin's is so slow and this is what makes it such a perfect place to relax...........
Hope you too have managed to grab some summer sunshine and relaxation over the past few weeks. x

  4. Lovely to see you back and what a wonderful time you had.
The photographs are just so good, I want to go there.

    Love Diane. x

  5. Christine,
Do you think they need another potter there?
A residency of say, ten years or so?
Not only is it serene looking, but I love that blue bus.

  6. It looks so quaint - love the bus - so its easy to see why it must be a relaxing place to be. The water, the buildings, plants - gorgeous.

  7. I'd love to visit the Scilly Isles...
    The light is so wonderful.
    Lovely pics.

    Sandie xx

  8. Beautiful photos - brought back lots of memories for me as I used to go on holiday to the Scillies when I was younger as my parents have some friends who live there. They used to joke that all they saw of my sister and I were our backs as we would scour the water's edge at Appletree Bay on Tresco looking for little pink cowrie shells! Haven't been for years, would love to go back one day. Helen x

  9. Great post Christine. Love the crate of "Scilly sea urchins - dived for in the dark deep depths of winter". I could hear seagulls and taste the briny as I wandered through your evocative photos, but when I looked up I was still in Bronte Country and not a single grain of sand in sight!
